Blogtober Reflections

Empowerment, Inspiration, Writing Tips & Info
Well, I did it! It’s day thirty-one and I have posted a new blog everyday for the month of October! I’ve never posted thirty-one blogs in a year, so to stay on track and consistent for an entire month is something I’m very proud of! On day one I told you all about my goals for the month of October and I’m happy to announce I’ve accomplished each goal I created for myself. *takes bow* First, let me tell you how proud I am of myself. There were many days this month I wanted to quit. Life got in the way, things didn’t fall into place like I wanted them to, I didn’t always meet deadlineS I set for myself, and I was TIRED. But, I kept pushing. I kept…

Domestic Violence Advocates On day 30 of Blogtober, I want to talk about a serious topic, domestic violence. It’s a subject I became too familiar with at a very young age. A few years ago, I wrote about my experience as a kid witnessing domestic violence in the home. The incidents I witnessed, while I was only three, and can still remember most details vividly, from the abuse to the day we left, shaped who I am to this very day. It shaped my attitude towards men, how I demand to be treated, and how I view police based on the encounter we had with them the one time I remember my mother trying to seek help. It shaped my No, I Don’t Have To, and I WON’T attitude at…

Available December 19, 2019 Day 29 of Blogtober! The month is almost over, and it’s time for me to reveal some information about my very first published ebook- No, I Don’t Have To. Release date- December 19, 2019! Pre-order details will be available in the coming weeks.  So, let me tell you about the book.  No, I Don’t Have To is a collection of stories about women taking back their power by stating proudly, boldly, and unapologetically-No, I Don’t Have To. Women are practically bred to be dormant, silent, and put up with the many things life throws their way. Everything from maintaining the home at all cost, rearing children, dealing with toxic relationships (familial, romantic, or platonic), staying in shape never letting anyone down. Women and young women have…

Intention Creates Reality

Intention Creates Reality

Empowerment, Inspiration
I am a firm believer in doing everything with intention. Everything from what I post, say, do- it’s all with intention.  Do I still have times when I get frustrated or become doubtful?- You better believe it. But I sit back, evaluate, and think of the greater good or the lesson I’m learning, and I’m able to get back on track.  Deepak Chopra defines intention- Intention is the starting point of every dream. It is the creative power that fulfills all of our needs, whether for money, relationships, spiritual awakening, or love.  Intention drives your purpose, and it gives you the inspiration you need to achieve your purpose.  Because intention drives your purpose, you must first determine what you want out of life, what you plan to contribute to the world,…

Sunday Reflections: Believe

Sunday Reflections: Believe

Inspiration
Blogtober-Day 27 Each Sunday in the month has been reserved for my reflections on the 31 Day Bible Plan I mentioned in my October Goals post-Believe.  I have continued to stay on track by reading the devotional and accompanying scriptures daily.  Check out week one, week two, week three of my Sunday reflections for the month. Each devotional begins with a question about faith and believing, and the author goes on to answer each question by using scripture and life examples.  Three key ideas stood out for me this week: 1. I am committed to loving God and loving others. 2. Despite my circumstances, I feel inner contentment and understand my purpose in life. 3. I am slow to anger and endure patiently under the unavoidable pressures of life. This week’s…

Journal Prompts for Self Reflection

Journal Prompts for Self Reflection

Empowerment, Inspiration
Welcome to Day 24 of Blogtober! Today we're focusing on something I think is very important in life-self reflection. The Oxford Dictionary defines self-reflection as meditation or serious thought about one's character, actions, and motives. Self-reflection is something I take very serious in many areas of my life. It helps me to grow and learn from many situations and get to know more about myself. One way I self reflect is through journal writing. Here are a few prompts to help with reflecting and moving forward. How do I deal with challenges in my life? How do I respond to situations that force me out of my comfort zone? How do I spend my free time? What makes me happy? What things do I love about my life? What do I love about myself? What does…

Insight From A Leader

Insight From A Leader

Inspiration
Welcome to day 23 of Blogtober! I told you earlier in the month that I love October because some of my favorite people were born this month. One of those people is my dear husband! He's not into all of the public displays of mushiness, so I decided to conduct a brief interview with him on a topic he is well-versed in-leadership. Since he is a leader in his field and has been since graduating from college, I decided to ask him a few questions from a leader's perspective to share with you. I hope you find his insight helpful. Name a person who has had an impact on you as a leader, and why?Two people have impacted me-my mom on a personal end and my first boss. Both of…

Don’t Give Up. Start Over.

Inspiration
Welcome to day 22 of Blogtober. It’s another late edition, but it wasn’t meant to be late. There I was this morning, adding the final touches to today’s original post. I thought I clicked save draft and went on about the business of getting dressed and officially posting between 6:30 a.m.-7:00 a.m. When I go to the WordPress app on my phone to add one more graphic I find just the original picture and no words. I realized I must have not clicked save draft and the entire post was gone. I do keep a back up somewhere else, but the post I thought was saved had been edited with new information and thoughts. Plus it was 6:45 a.m. and I needed to leave for work within fifteen minutes. Defeated,…
