Welcome to day 23 of Blogtober!
I told you earlier in the month that I love October because some of my favorite people were born this month.
One of those people is my dear husband!
He’s not into all of the public displays of mushiness, so I decided to conduct a brief interview with him on a topic he is well-versed in-leadership.
Since he is a leader in his field and has been since graduating from college, I decided to ask him a few questions from a leader’s perspective to share with you. I hope you find his insight helpful.
Name a person who has had an impact on you as a leader, and why?
Two people have impacted me-my mom on a personal end and my first boss. Both of them have similarities-firm and fair leadership styles. They both put a lot of emphasis on recognizing their teams for their performance.
How do you encourage innovative thinking amongst your employees?
I always encourage them by asking challenging questions, more so than just giving direction. This forces them to think through situations instead of just waiting for someone to tell them what to do. The end result usually gathers more engagement in the business or process because they know they had a direct impact on the business.
When faced with two equally qualified candidates, how do you determine whom to hire?
When deciding on equally qualified candidates, at the end of the day, if they have similar leadership styles, it comes down to performance results.
What is the biggest challenge facing leaders today?
In my work environment, the biggest challenge is how to motivate your team when there are limited incentives. It comes down to creating an atmosphere that people want to come to daily. Allowing my team to be involved in the business to help generate engagement.
Thanks for joining me for day 23 of Blogtober.
Shout out to My Danny for taking time to contribute to the blog on his birthday!
