Lessons I Learned In 2019

Lessons I Learned In 2019

Blogmas, Empowerment, Inspiration
Welcome to Day 10 of Blogmas. With the year coming to an end, I decided to write about a few of the many lessons I learned in 2019. Lesson 1: It's okay to start over. One of my goals for this year was to take my writing more seriously. I planned to grow my blog and my writing business. At the beginning of the year, I had a much different vision than what I do now. Instead of sticking to what I was doing, which wasn't working, I took some time to switch gears, redevelop my goals, and approach my writing differently. I will get back to my original goal but have to take a step in a different direction to get there. Lesson 2: You make time for the things…

Holiday Pet Peeves

Holiday Pet Peeves

Blogmas
Welcome to Day 9 of Blogmas. Today I'm going to share a few of my holiday pet peeves. Pet Peeve #1: People who complain about long lines in the stores. We all know that this is the biggest time of year in retail. The National Retail Federation predicts spending to increase to over $730 billion dollars this holiday shopping season. It's going to be crowded, the later you wait to shop, the more people you'll probably have to deal with. Calm your nerves and be patient or order online. Pet Peeve #2: People who don't respect other choices for how they celebrate. It's 2019. People have the choice to believe in and do whatever they choose to do. As long as they're not hurting you, let it go. If someone is…

Happy Saturday and Day 7 of Blogmas! As I've shared before, this time of year can be tough for me. One way I find helpful to keep my spirits lifted is to read inspirational messages. I keep them saved in my phone, my journal, vision board, notebooks, notepads- you get it. Below are eight inspirational holiday quotes that uplift me during this time of year. "The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on our blessings and seek out ways to make life better for those around us." -Terri Marshall "God never gives someone a gift they are not capable of receiving." -Pope Francis "The happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more." -Jackson Brown, jr. My Favorite Jay-Z Songs

My Favorite Jay-Z Songs

Blogmas
Listing some of my favorite Jay-Z songs in honor of his 50th birthday. Welcome to Blogmas Day 4! It’s December 4th and today my favorite rapper for the last twenty plus years turns fifty years old. I’ve been a Jay-Z fan since 1996 when I heard his single with Foxy Brown from his first studio album, Reasonable Doubt. Since then I’ve owned, listened to, and sometimes related to many Jigga songs, albums, and interviews. I could be here for the rest of Blogmas listing my favorite Jay-Z songs, but I’ll keep it short with a list of twenty. It was hard to narrow down, but here they are. 1. Regrets (Album: Reasonable Doubt) 2. Song Cry (Album: The Blueprint) 3. Soon You’ll Understand (Album: The Dynasty) 4. Streets is Talking…

My Writing Space

Blogmas, Writing Tips & Info
Hey! It’s day 3 of Blogmas. Today I’m going to share a little about my writing space. Disclaimer: Any space is technically my writing space. Give me something to write or type on and somewhere to sit, and bam-I’m writing. The space I’m describing today sets the mood for a more intentional and purposeful writing session for me. I call this my mobile office. I’ll have a mobile office until I convert my once hair and nail room. Don’t ask me when that will be, one day, though. I don’t plan to go back to doing hair and nails, but I’m also not ready to get rid of my supplies and equipment. Anyway… For now, I work with my mobile material, and it’s working just fine for me. My mobile…

Coping With Grief During The Holidays

Empowerment, Inspiration
Holiday grief, something I'm all too familiar with and have been for some time. The last holiday I spent with the closest person to me, my mommy, was in 2004. I was twenty-one when she passed away, and twenty-two when I spent my first holiday season without her.  Throughout the years, I have learned some healthy ways to process and deal with my emotions. It hasn't been easy, and I don't anticipate that it ever will be, but each year, I make it through.  I'm no expert, but these are the things I've found helpful during this tough time of the year.  Acknowledge your feelings. There's no use in pretending you're okay when you're not. That only leads to a blow-up once all of those bottled up feelings come flowing…

Blogmas, Writing Tips & Info
Happy December! Welcome to day 1 of Blogmas! First, I can't believe I agreed to participate in Blogmas this year, especially with everything I have going on this month. But somehow, my fellow sister in writing heyy_friend_ on Instagram convinced me. So, here I am. What is Blogmas?Blogmas is like a calendar countdown for bloggers. From the first of December until Christmas Day, bloggers and vloggers alike, create a post a day. Some focus strictly on Christmas, but there is no strict rule that says you have to concentrate on winter holidays. My Blogmas post will be a mixture of Christmas favorites, my new ebook- No, I Don't Have To, and because it's the end of the decade, a few of my favorite things and memories from 2010-2019. I hope…
