Remembering Mommy…16 Years Later

Remembering Mommy…16 Years Later

Black Excellence, Empower & Inspire, More About Chanee’
As of today, my mother has been gone for sixteen years. Sixteen years of her not hugging me.Sixteen years of not getting her advice.Sixteen years of her not fussing at me for not answering my phone while I'm out.Sixteen years of ups, downs, pain, and joy. It's hard for me to talk about her because I hate thinking about her in the past tense. This year I knew I wanted to put something out on the blog, but I didn't know where to start. I started googling ideas and found a list of journal prompts for grief. I decided to use a few to reminisce about the best woman I've ever known. It helped a little. So, here goes… In a few sentences, what was your mother like?Mommy was fun-loving,…

I’m Grateful For My HBCU

I’m Grateful For My HBCU

Black Excellence, More About Chanee’
I have seen more appreciation for historically black universities and colleges on social media because of our new vice-president-elect, Kamala Harris. If you're new here, I am a proud HBCU alumnus. In 2006 I graduated from the National Treasure, Morgan State University. I am so grateful for not only the education I received at Morgan, but the family and friends I've gained, the experiences I had, and how I grew as a person. To check out why I only applied at Morgan, check out my previous blog post- Why I Only Applied To Morgan State. To get a small glimpse of my experience, check out my post, where I share some photos of my experiences- I'm So Glad I Went To Morgan State.

A Few Things I Learned About Myself During the 30 Day Walking Challenge

A Few Things I Learned About Myself During the 30 Day Walking Challenge

Empower & Inspire, More About Chanee’
Last month I came across a thirty-day walking challenge on Instagram. The goal was to walk thirty miles in thirty days. The woman who created the challenge (BmoreZinga) didn’t want to put pressure on people; she suggested we walk one mile per day but made it clear we would encourage each other and not shame each other throughout the process. It was okay if you missed a day. I accepted the challenge and, in the process, learned a lot about myself and reinforced some things I already knew. Walking is my favorite form of exercise. Exercising does not come easy to me. It’s a task, and it takes me forever to do, but not walking. I would grab my headphones and favorite playlist and enjoy my time by myself thinking…

More About Chanee’
Happy May 1! It's been a while since I've posted on the blog outside of my birthday post. Everything going on in the world had me re-evaluating and re-planning things as I'm sure it has for you, too. To get back in the swing of posting, I've decided that one of my May goals is to post on the blog for thirty-one days straight. There isn't an official challenge. I searched for and created some topics for May that speak for my brand and me as a person, overall. May's post begins with me checking in and posting a few recent pictures. The pictures in the title were taken about a week ago on Snapchat. I've changed my hair since then; I'll share later lol :-) Since we've been in…

Welcome to Wellness Wednesday! If you've followed me for a while, you'll notice I'm obsessed with progress pictures. I'm a visual person in general, so comparing where I came from to where I am, inspires me to keep pushing! I get lots of questions about what I'm doing to lose weight, and honestly, it's nothing special or unheard of. It's best to talk to your doctor about works best for you. While I don't mind sharing the basics of what I consume and my physical activity, they aren't the reason for my transformation. A year and a half ago, I decided enough was enough. I won't share my heaviest weight, but please know I was extremely obese, had heartburn out of this world, and my knees and back were always…

15 Lessons I Learned From Mommy

Empower & Inspire, More About Chanee’
This week will make fifteen years since my mother has been gone from this earth. It feels like yesterday, and I'm shocked and amazed that I've made it this long without her. I had an incredible twenty years and nine months with her here, and I learned so many things that have gotten me through even today. Some things she taught me directly and some things I learned from watching how genuine and loving she was as a person. So, I'll share fifteen things I learned from mommy. Invest in your children.Always look at the bright side.Real friends don't have to speak often for you to know they're always there for you.Love yourself enough to walk away.Put your children first.Family is the most important thing you have.Don't hold onto bitterness.Forgiveness…

Holiday Pet Peeves

Holiday Pet Peeves

More About Chanee’
Welcome to Day 9 of Blogmas. Today I'm going to share a few of my holiday pet peeves. Pet Peeve #1: People who complain about long lines in the stores. We all know that this is the biggest time of year in retail. The National Retail Federation predicts spending to increase to over $730 billion dollars this holiday shopping season. It's going to be crowded, the later you wait to shop, the more people you'll probably have to deal with. Calm your nerves and be patient or order online. Pet Peeve #2: People who don't respect other choices for how they celebrate. It's 2019. People have the choice to believe in and do whatever they choose to do. As long as they're not hurting you, let it go. If someone is…
