Whether you were into basketball or not, you knew Kobe Bryant.
And while I didn’t know the man, his death feels personal. This morning I’m still in shock as I type this post. Some people seem almost invincible, but time and time again, life reminds us that no one is invincible, not even the greats.
A few things come to mind when I reflect on how short life truly is; there are a few things I’ve learned and take away from this loss to the culture.
Live Life Fearlessly: This is easier said than done, but if there is something you’ve always wanted to do, somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, something you’ve always wanted to pursue- go for it.
Forgive Easy and Often: As the saying goes, forgiveness is for you, not the other person. If you’ve been wronged, find it in your heart to forgive. You won’t get anywhere walking around with the burden of unforgiveness.
Let Things Go As Needed: Forgiving does not have to mean reconciliation. On the same token, because life is so short, stop spending it with and giving energy to things and people that don’t make you feel good.
Give People Their Flowers Now: Let people know how much you love, respect, admire, and appreciate them now, while they’re still here.
As we are so solemnly reminded, life is short; tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
Starting today, starting right now, live your life to the fullest. Do those things you were putting off, no matter how big or small. Call that family member or friend you’ve meant to catch up with, visit that place you’ve wanted to check out.
Live, Laugh, Love.
